This site has been collated by a group of Maria's friends (with the permission of her family) purely to enable her fervent wish: that her songs be her lasting legacy. When she sent out her last album, Albion's Words, it included a personal note. For some it was with a Christmas card. Others obviously received a more telling letter. Few of us realised that just weeks later the cancer would take her. This is an extract from one of those notes:
"I am sending you a copy of my latest CD which I hope you will very much enjoy. I would like to think my songs will be part of the Folk Tradition in the future (it is all I really want) and are still being sung in 20/50/100 years time. That would be brilliant."
We will include as much of her material as possible. Thankfully, everyone we have contacted has been incredibly helpful. We trust we have given full acknowledgement and that you will also, if you perform any of Maria's work. We know that she wrote many more songs. Unfortunately, they were never recorded. Please note: Maria has duplicated some of her songs on her recordings. She has also recorded some traditional ones. We have not included the lyrics for these, though we have the poems. We wanted to concentrate on Maria's songs and have included the words as PDF's for printing.
